“First Night Virginia”, Trombone Shorty, the Moscow Ballet and Other December Events

There’s much to do here before the end of 2016.  On December 31st, Charlottesville will host its 35th First Night Virginia, a festival of local performing singers, actors, comedians, musicians and other performing artists.  It’s our community’s version of Times Square in NYC and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.  Also, on the afternoon of the 31st, the highly ranked UVA men’s basketball team will take on its first ACC foe of the season, Florida State, at the JPJ Arena.  On the 30th, check out the Jefferson Theater where local favorite groups the Skip Castro Band and the Nighthawks will be playing.  The night before, Trombone Shorty will be appearing live at the Jefferson.  At the Paramount Theater on the 18th, the Moscow Ballet will perform the Great Russian Nutcracker ballet.  And this time of year, it’s enjoyable to drive through our neighborhoods and take in holiday decorations and lighting displays.  You might even see Clark Griswold and his 25,000 Christmas Vacation lights in all their splendor.  We’ve got rooms available if you visit and need a place to stay.  Happy New Year!
